How to Prevent Pest and Insect Problems in Your Home

No one likes to come home and see a roach crawling on the floor, a fly moving in front of a window or a trail of ants climbing up their kitchen door. However, at one time or another, this is something that virtually all of us have experienced. And while calling an exterminator to terminate the pests inside of your house is one approach to take, wouldn’t it be awesome if there were things that you could do to prevent them from coming into your house in the first place?

If you’d like some effective ways to prevent pests and insects from becoming a problem inside of your house, check out these five tips below:

Seal up your doors and windows. There are a lot of people who have spiders, ants and flies in their home, but for the life of them, they can’t figure out where they came from. The answer might just be due to small holes and cracks that they have along their windows and doors. So, make sure to inspect those areas of your own house. If you do notice places that need sealing, all you need to do is go to your local home improvement store and purchase some caulking. That should close up the cracks and holes in no time.

Reduce the clutter. One place that bugs like to go in order to hide and also find privacy in order to reproduce is around clutter. For this reason, it’s important to not allow things to pile up. Don’t leave books, magazines and papers lying around. Pick up your clothes and shoes. Also, don’t allow your garage or basement to become a trash bin. Keeping everything in its proper place is just one more way to keep pests and insects at bay.

Clean your kitchen. Something that enjoys the food in your kitchen almost as much as you do are bugs. That’s why you need to make sure to clean your kitchen every day. Wipe down your surfaces. Sweep your floors. Be careful not to leave any dishes in your sink. Mop a couple of times per week. All of these things will help to keep your kitchen sparkling clean and pest-free.

Take out the trash. Another reason why there might be pests inside of your home is the trash that’s in your kitchen, garage or even your bathroom. That’s because trash has an odor and that scent attracts bugs to it. So, line up your trash cans with a bag and when the bag gets free, tie up the top and immediately take it to your large can outside for garbage pick-up.

Try out household items. Although you can use something like Powderpost Beetle Control Treatments and Spray to remove pests in your home, if you’re concerned about the amount of chemicals and toxins that are inside, there’s another alternative. You can use certain household items, essential oils and herbs to remove bugs from the various rooms of your house. Lemon or lime juice deters spiders. Basil will block spies. Ants hate vinegar. Mosquitos flee from catnip. For tips on how to use all of these things effectively, visit Bob Villa and put “natural ways to remove critters” in the search field.
